Revamped Costumes - UPDATE

After bandlaunching some costumes are loved and desired, and some costumes get responses like "Why dat look so? Why they add that piece? It wouldve been better without it!" So in an effort to appease Masqueraders, and of course sell costumes bands revamp troubled costumes in an attempt to make them more aesthetically pleasing to the public. In recent weeks we have seen some of the Caribana bands doing some revamping.

Carnival Nationz has revamped "Treasure Island" by making a few changes to the bra. They have taken the black netting off, and added other adornments. It seems a number of persons did not like the mesh/net that had previously adorned the bra. The new bra does look nice, but I guess I understood the net as giving the "island" feel. Although when I look at the costume I still don't think "Treasure Island". Pictured above is the costume previewed at bandlaunching. I am unable to pull a picture of the revamped costume from their website, but you can go take a look for yourself http://www.carnivalnationz.com/ and view the "Treasure Island" section.

Toronto Revellers has also done some revamping of the "Kemet" costume. Comments on this costume after bandlaunching were such as "looks undone and messy". I guess Revellers listened to masqueraders and made an effort to make the costume more pleasing. The new costume still does nothing for me, but definitely is an improvement from the previous. Haaaaaate the headpiece though.

This a new photo of the Kemet costume on Revellers website, Ill admit the headpiece and the composition of this photo makes the costume look 10 times better. The website is still showing the photo with the previously revamped costume with the horrific headpiece, so I am not sure if this is the new costume for the entire section, or if this is a "frontline" option.

whats up with the white costume, from Toronto Revellers, I think the name is Kemet, forgive me if I am wrong.why is the beads so long in front. I am not feeling the headpiece at all. something ent right. Go back to the drawing board come back with something fabalous.nah.

The new headpiece with Sahara sunrise is alot better. I am now feeling it. It goes with the costumes. I love it.

I love the God costume in Toronto Revellers, but not the headpiece. Why black feathers. I drowns the headpiece now. Gold goes with some many other colors. Come on lades, lets try to do better.

The new Treasure Island bra looks great. I always liked the belt (keeping w the theme) & the headpiece. I'm not into white costumes, they never do anything for me. The headpiece has got to go though.

I have to agree with Karabana, the new look of Treasure Island bra is really great, I am feelin' it, that's from Carnival Nationz. I am not into the white costume from Toronto Revellers, please go and revamp the costume again. the headpiece, the one that look like a fisherman net over your head, has to go, the beads are way to long, and outdated, did anyone go to Trinidad for this year Carnival, come on designers of Kemet, where is you'll creativity flowing.
Here's some gossip for the day I was at the Toronto Revellers mas camp last night and I overheard a couple of the section leaders saying that the white costume is not selling, no one register with that section as yet and everyoneone started to laugh, I really would like to know why. Are they hiding something. Who is the section leaders of the white section?

thanks for that little tidbit. I would believe that it isn't selling, because they people who are really into the Caribana scene have already registered. Now you only have the last minute people trickling into sections of bands that arent sold out, and Revellers have nicer sections than the white that aren't sold out that people can still get into - eg. Sahara Sunrise

You really have to wonder what the criteria for costumes to be selected is. Becaue the initial costume was HIDEOUS! and made it to band launching...Im sure even within the group of designers and the head of the band, they could have brought to the table the fact that the costume was not aesthetically attractive.
